Tamaqua Scool board approves items

Tamaqua Area School Board took care of the following business at its most recent meeting:

• Approved polices regarding extracurricular participation by home education students and participation in co-curricular activities and academic courses by home education students.

• Authorized the Tamaqua Area Booster Board to again apply for a small games of chance license.

• Approved a student flu shot clinic for Nov. 8, and a RiteAid Pharmacy Flu Vaccine Clinic for fund benefit-eligible, district employees. The district will pay for the vaccine for employees and a date will be scheduled.

• Approved early graduation for a 10th grade student. This student is on track to graduate a year early, the board noted. Students wishing to graduate early must announce or declare in 10th grade, Superintendent Ray Kinder said.

• Approved an agreement with Child and Family Services Inc. of Reading, for the provision of the elementary student assistance program.

• Approved the Revised Title 1 Non-Public Letter of Agreement with the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 Title 1 Math and Reading Program, Non-Public Programs and services at a cost of $11,027.93 per student, plus an 11% administrative fee, at non-public school: Assumption BVM School in Pottsville, St. Jerome Regional School in Tamaqua, and St. Nicholas School in Minersville.

• Approved an agreement with Albright College for student teachers, practicum or student teaching experience.

• Approved a lease agreement with Schuylkill IU 29 for classroom space to conduct a preschool program, as done in the past. The term is one year and the cost is $10,200 a year.

• Approved the SHINE Summer Program, sponsor to sponsor agreement, with Lehigh Carbon Community College with prices of $2.25 breakfast and $4 lunch.

• Approved the expulsion of a middle school student for one calendar year for a violation of the discipline code.
