Man dies in Lehigh Co. plane crash

A 49-year-old man died when a plane crashed Wednesday in Salisbury Township, according to the Lehigh County Coroner’s office.

The small plane crashed in the yard of a house at 1480 Keystone Road around 1:30 p.m., according to Salisbury Township police.

The coroner’s office was called to the scene shortly after the crash.

The coroner said the man was pronounced dead at 2:39 p.m.

The coroner’s office said because of the severity of the crash, visual identification is not possible. After an autopsy, the coroner’s office will try to identify the man through dental records.

After the man’s identity is known, next of kin will be notified and the man’s name will be released to the public, according to the coroner’s office.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane that crashed was a single-engine Piper PA-28. The FAA did not say how many were on board.

However, Salisbury Township police said they found a man on the ground when they arrived.

He was taken to Lehigh Valley Health Network Hospital-Cedar Crest.

In addition to the coroner’s office, the death is being investigated by the Salisbury Township Police Department, with assistance from the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.

Also assisting at the scene were the Emmaus Police Department, Emmaus Fire Department, Pennsylvania State Police, Allentown Police Department, Western Salisbury Fire Department, and the South Whitehall Township Police Department.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Salisbury Township Police Department at 610-797-1447 or Lehigh County Radio at 610-437-5252.
