Yenser’s Tree Farm along Route 902 has expanded beyond its well-known Christmas tree operation and Fall Festival to include a summer attraction featuring thousands of sunflowers.

The farm added sunflower fields eight years ago and held its first Sunflower Festival in 2020. The fields feature thousands of sunflowers in a variety of colors and attract pollinators, such as bees and butterflies.

This year’s festival opened Friday with a “Sunflowers at Sunset” event. A purchased ticket included hayrides, children’s activities, live music and access to the sunflower maze; however admission is free to the fields with pick your own sunflowers at an additional cost. The festival continued Saturday and Sunday.

The Valley View Center houses the farm’s gift shop and a kitchen serving food and drinks.

The Sunflower Festival continues this weekend and will feature a new event, “Praise in the Valley,” from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday.

“That’s brand-new, we’re pretty excited about that,” said Nolan Wentz, whose parents own the farm. “We will have three different praise bands from local churches coming to play, it’s free admission, so anybody can come. Check out the flowers, eat some good food, and listen to some music.”

The festival will also take place from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Wentz said visitors can expect “lots of sunflowers” and opportunities to walk through the fields and pick flowers. “Lots of sunflowers, you can walk through the fields, you can pick as many as you like. They’re $1.50 for one, or 10 for $13.00. We have food and drinks for sale. Our gift shop is open, lots of kids’ activities. The reindeer train, bounce pad, the air cannons that shoot corn cobs, and our tricycle track. Lots of activities, no matter your age,” he said.

Karli Seashock of Bloomsburg and Angel Santa of Saylorsburg, accompanied by their dogs, Chico and Kai, took a hayride to the sunflower maze.

“This is our first time here,” Santa said. “It’s amazing!”

“It’s pretty,” Seashock added. “We’re excited to see this at sunset.”

Yenser’s Fall Festival will begin its 11th season on weekends from Sept. 26 through Oct. 25.
