Lansford councilman cited

State police cited a Lansford Borough councilman for harassment following an incident with another council member in August.

John Zym was cited for a harassment — course of conduct with no legitimate purpose for an incident with Michele Bartek on Aug. 18 at 7:10 p.m. at the intersection of Ridge and Tunnel streets.

The citation states that Zym argued with Bartek, which alarmed or seriously annoyed her and served no legitimate purpose, the non-traffic citation states.

Blue Ridge 13 reported an incident between Zym and Bartek when the two had words on the street near borough hall regarding the hiring of police following a council meeting that didn’t happen due to lack of quorum.

That incident was on Aug. 13, not the date listed on the non-traffic citation filed by state police.

Zym was not in attendance at that Aug. 13 meeting, which included potential police hirings, consideration for a new chief and a presentation from Kafferlin Strategies.

Zym told the Times News that he was out of state attending to his father’s estate and arrived in town later, stopping to see if the meeting was still going on.

The Times News reached out to Zym regarding the citation Tuesday and he said he believes it stemmed from the Aug. 13 incident.
