A Summit Hill man was jailed for possessing and disseminating child pornography found on his computer.

Justin Miles, 48, of East Hazard Street, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of sexual abuse of children-child sexual abuse material, 10 counts; sexual abuse of children-disseminating photo/film of child sex acts, one count, and criminal use of a communication facility.

District Judge Beth Dodson set bail at $100,000 and Miles was remanded to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning in lieu of bail. A preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled Aug. 12.

According to the criminal complaint, the state police Computer Crime Unit received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children’s Cyber Tip Line.

The tip related a suspect with the screen name “jwmiles77,” and similar email account shared a video depicting child sexual abuse material from his Discord instant messaging account, court papers said.

The video showed a nude girl approximately 6- to 8-years-old wearing a dog collar underneath an animal, likely a dog, engaged in a sexual act, court papers said.

State police traced the Internet account to Miles at an East Hazard Street address and obtained a search warrant for the home.

Troopers explained the reason for the warrant to Miles, who asked if it was from Discord, and said that was “bad mistake on my part,” court papers said.

Miles told troopers that he downloaded the video from the dark web and shared the file with an online friend on Discord and described the file, court papers said. His Discord account was suspended after sharing the file.

Miles told troopers he used his laptop to download the file, and no one else uses that computer. He provided a password for the laptop and told them they would find more “kiddie files” on the laptop.

Miles told troopers he knew this behavior was wrong and worried about getting arrested, court papers said.

Miles explained how he accessed the dark web and the site he used to obtain free child sexual abuse material, or CSAM. He provided the name of folder, KenderGardenAttendence, and said he used that because he had worked at a day care in another state for 12 years, court papers said.

Troopers asked about encrypted filed on the laptop, and Miles said he did have encrypted files containing CSAM, and provided passwords that did not work. He then said the password was saved on his cellphone.

Miles told troopers that he began using an encrypted application while working for Disney, and that he was supposed to start working for Arise, a platform that provides remote customer service for Disney, court papers said.

Troopers found 10 videos on Miles’ laptop depicting CSAM, and troopers detailed three videos involving nude girls involved in sexual acts each other or with an adult male, court papers said.

Miles denied ever sexually abusing a child in real life, court papers said.
