CCTI students start year with action-packed week

The start of the school year was more exciting for the students at Carbon Career & Technical Institute in Jim Thorpe.

This week, for the first time, CCTI coordinated for the students and staff, “CCTI Safety Week.”

Brent Borzak, administrative director and Michelle Allen, principal, organized the event with the help of faculty and staff members.

The week began on Monday with “Safety Drills (fire, lockdown) giving the students firsthand experience with how to handle many emergency situations. Everyone had the opportunity to wear hats to “Protect Your Head.”

Tuesday, ALICE Presentations & Drills - presentations were held for all students, and an ALICE drill was then conducted. Students dressed in their favorite team jersey for “Team Up Against School Violence.”

Wednesday, Aevidum & SADD Presentations - students dress like twins for “I’ve got your back.”

Thursday, Severe Weather Drill - students practiced proper procedure for a possible tornado or severe weather. Students dressed as a rock band member or die dye shirt for “Peace or Rock out for Positivity.”

Friday – Distracted Driving Simulator/LifeFlight Landing & Presentation - faculty and students dressed in white for “White out Negativity.” Students had the opportunity to participate with the Distracted Driving Simulator and Lifeflight landed on the field at the school campus.

“This week was amazing for our students educating and exposing them to all facets of the medical field and emergency situations. We feel that this week prepared our students for any emergency situation that may arise” said Borzak.
