PTSD support

On Tuesday, beginning at 7 p.m., the Valor PTSD Support Group will hold its monthly meeting at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

One need not be a member of Post 927 to attend.

Special family hunt

Monroe County Conservation District’s Kettle Creek Environmental Education Center offers a family scavenger hunt program at 10 a.m. June 25.

All families will receive a challenging list of natural items located on the Kettle Creek property. Using cellphones, found items will be photographed for later confirmation. All families who complete the hunt successfully will be awarded a prize.

Preregistration is required. There is a cost per family.

TOPS meeting

TOPS PA 1113 Kresgeville has changed its meeting site to Salem-St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Anyone who has failed in the past or is currently interested in losing weight and sustaining that weight loss, may be able to get help from this group.

The group meets at 6 p.m. every Wednesday. Attendees are invited come early for a short social gathering and then an informative meeting.

QOP flea market

The annual QOP flea market fundraiser will be held from June 24 through June 26.

The event will again include clothing for all sizes and linens and some furniture as well as plants, a basket raffle, etc.

PVEN collecting

From Colleen Walsh, director of the PVEN Food Pantry and Clothing Closet comes word of May outreach numbers: Food Pantry, 208 families and 507 individuals served; Clothing Closet, 27 families served and 85 individuals served.

In addition, the PVEN also served 55 families through the Diaper Pantry and 80 individuals in a Female Hygiene Pantry.

Now the PVEN is looking for donations of back-to-school supplies by the end of July for its August Back to School Extravaganza.

Needed are: backpacks, school supplies, sneakers (sizes for boys, girls, man and women); socks, (sizes for boys, girls, man and women); underwear (hipsters for girls and women)/boxer briefs for boys & men; and personal care items such as deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc.

Donations can be brought to the PVEN at 2336 Route 209 in Sciota.

Needed for the everyday program of the PVEN Food Pantry and the Clothing Closet are pancake syrup, cereal, cake mix and bread crumbs for the former and personal care items, sheets and towels, bras and sports bras, paper towels and toilet paper, cleaning products and laundry detergent for the latter.

VBS schedules set

• Effort UMC has announced its VBS for July 10-15, with classes being held, primarily in the evening. The schedule is as follows: Sunday, July 10, noon to 2:30 p.m. (lunch provided); Monday, July 11, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (meal provided); Wednesday through Friday, July 13-15, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. (meal provided); Sunday, closing ceremony, July 17, 8:30 a.m., with hopes for the youth and families to join the congregation at this service to share their songs of worship and scriptures learned at VBS.

• St. Matthew’s UCC is accepting registration for its VBS to be held from 9 a.m. to noon, July 18-22, for children ages 3 to 12. A parent or adult may stay with 3- and 4-year-olds. The theme is Food Truck Party.

• Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Brodheadsville, has announced it is now accepting registration for its Mega Sports Camp, Legendary Journey to the Hall of Fame, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 1-5. Open House set

The West End Fire Company, Brodheadsville, will be holding a community open house from noon to 4 p.m. July 16 at 128 Route 715 (behind Wawa), Brodheadsville.

Admission is free.

Food and beverages will be available for purchase. There will be activities for children and adults.

One will be able to tour the fire trucks, meet a firefighter and Search and Rescue teams will be present along with the county EMA, 911 dispatchers, sheriff’s department, and much more.

Children can participate in various safety/resource stations and earn a prize if they complete all stations.

Conservation camp

The Monroe County Conservation District is currently accepting applications for the 47th Monroe County Conservation Camp, held at Stony Acres Wildlife Sanctuary/Recreational Facility.

Conservation Camp is a residential camp for teens ages 14 through this year’s high school graduate being held from July 16-23.

Blood drive set

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is hosting a Red Cross community blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m. July 19.
