ShopRite tops fundraising contest

On Thursday, ShopRite of Brodheadsville held a celebration and unveiled the special edition Cheerios boxes featuring the winners of the annual ShopRite Partners in Caring Cheerios Contest, sponsored in partnership with General Mills.

This is the second year in a row the Brodheadsville ShopRite, owned and operated by the Kinsley family, is the top fundraising store.

“The annual contest raised over $1.1 million that will go to regional food banks in several states, and again this year we were the top fundraising store. We raised more than $38,000,” said Angela Kinsley, who spearheaded the Our ShopRite Partners in Caring All Stars at the Brodheadsville store.

Each winning store received prize money, $3,300 for the top five stores and $500 for the remaining winning stores that will be donated to local food pantries chosen by the respective store teams.

Thanks to all the associates who worked so hard to raise funds to fight food shortages in Pennsylvania, Brodheadsville ShopRite was able to present a check for $3,300 to the West End Food Pantry in Kunkletown and another $500 from Partners in Caring Cheerios Contest awarded to the store associates, who decide where the money should go, and they wanted to give the $500 to the West End Food Pantry.

The annual fundraiser kicks off in the fall with lots of friendly competition with hundreds of ShopRite stores competing to collect the most donations in just five weeks in order to help the regional food banks, she explained.

The 45 top fundraising stores select associates to be featured on special edition Cheerios boxes that are sold only in the ShopRite stores. During March, April and May, the special edition boxes are unveiled during in-store celebrations, she said.

Kinsley said she was proud of all the associates and that it was a combined effort that helped them the reach $38,000.

Pennsylvania state Reps. Jack Rader, Rosemary M. Brown and state Sen. Mario Scavello thanked the Kinsley Family and all the associates, especially the winning store associates, Angela Kinsley, Melinda Collister, Esther Hollingsworth and Anthony Romano, whose special edition Cheerios boxes were on display. Shoppers will be able to buy the special edition boxes at Kinsley’s ShopRite for the next year.
