2021 year in review: 2 area residents arrested for role in insurrection

The Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol in Washington arguably topped the nation’s news in 2021 and it was followed by hundreds of arrests of people who participated in the insurrection.

Among those were two area residents who were charged as a result of their participation in the riot.

They included:

Jan. 17:

Andrew Wrigley, 51, of Jim Thorpe, was charged in the riot at the Capitol as well.

Police said Wrigley posted videos on his Facebook account showing his participation in the riot.

Earlier this month, Wrigley was sentenced to 18 months of probation and a $2,000 fine.

He pleaded guilty in September to “parading, demonstrating or picketing in a Capitol building, in violation of Title 40.”

Jan. 25:

Craig Bingert of Slatington was charged in connection with the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, after police identified him on police body camera footage from the riot.

Police said Bingert, 30, was one of a group of people who shoved a metal barricade into police officers as the crowd pushed toward the Capitol building.

Police said footage shows Bingert wearing a camouflage/military style jacket and was standing against a police barricade, carrying an American flag. At a later point, he used his hands to push the metal barricade toward Capitol police.
