Bowmanstown residents ask about safety, road conditions
Bowmanstown residents continue to question Council about safety and road conditions.
Rita Civitella asked borough council last week whether borough ordinances are followed.
Civitella also asked what steps the borough has taken to make the community safer and how complaints are handled, citing activity at the baseball field.
Resident Hunter Grol said one evening around midnight he noticed four individuals hanging out at the baseball field.
Civitella said such instances also occur in the lower parking lot.
Borough Mayor Zach Snyder recommended that residents fill out complaint forms with dates and times of the incidents.
Snyder said it’s important to give the best description possible.
“It’s cumbersome, it’s burdensome,” Snyder said. “We can’t afford a police department.”
Civitella said the issue isn’t going away anytime soon.
“We’re concerned about our safety,” Civitella said.
Road conditions
Grol also asked council what the plan is to fix the road conditions throughout the borough.
“The big issue is the quality of roads,” Grol said.
Grol said he believes it was previously a matter of gross negligence.
He described some of the road as being “absolutely atrocious.”
“I keep hearing about this five-year plan,” he said.
Grol added that while he realizes the borough doesn’t have the manpower to constantly fill holes, something needs to be done.
It was announced that several members of council were scheduled to meet Thursday morning with John Davis from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to review the roads.
Resident Sharon Krebs asked council if there’s going to be a plan.
Council President William Ravert said they did take a tour of the town.
Councilwoman Pam Leiby assured Krebs the borough is being proactive.
“We have probably 15 streets we’ll be looking to do,” Leiby said. “Unfortunately, we don’t get a lot of liquid fuels (money).”
Ravert said that the borough has applied for grants.
Leiby noted that the borough does have a grant in for Lincoln Avenue.
