Adoptions sought for Walnutport Christmas tree ceremony
The deadline to adopt a tree for Walnutport’s fifth annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is rapidly approaching.
The event will be held on Dec. 4 at the borough’s Recreation Center at 215 Lincoln Ave.
The Borough of Walnutport’s Recreation Board is looking for individuals or businesses who are interested in adopting a tree.
For a minimum donation of $40, the recreation board would provide and set up a tree (including the tree stand).
They are limited to the number of trees that can be adopted, therefore, they will be assigned on a first-come basis.
As part of the event, starting at 2 p.m., there will be food trucks, Chicken or the Egg, The Rolling Barista, Jackies Fresh Cut Fries, PFG Pizza, and possibly desserts.
Balloons by Robin will be handing out her creations, and a local firefighter will sponsor a Candy Cane Hunt at 3 p.m. The tree lighting will be held around 5 p.m.
Money raised from the event benefits the Walnutport Borough Recreation Board, and will be used to fund future projects.
All donations may be made payable to the Borough of Walnutport Recreation Board.
Anyone with questions, or those who would like to help with donations, adoption of a tree or sponsorship, or be a food vendor, may contact Jennifer Wentz at 484-273-2278, or Annette in the borough office at 610-767-1322, ext. 101.
Tree guidelines
All trees will stand between 5 and 6 feet tall.
Dates to decorate the trees will be from Nov. 20 (after noon) to Dec. 3 (by 2 p.m.). All trees must be decorated by Dec. 3 to test the electricity and make any changes as needed.
Additional guidelines:
• Must use LED lights when decorating, and limit lights to no more than 300. Trees using non-LED lighting will not be plugged in or you will be asked to switch them out.
• Attach an 8- to 10-foot outdoor extension cord, labeled with your name, to your tree stand and extending out. Do not push the cord under the tree so as not to have to search for the cord.
• The electricity will not be turned on when you decorate your tree, so be sure to test the lights before decorating it.
• There is to be no tinsel or similar items, or glass ornaments.
• Be sure to secure all ornaments with twist-ties, pipe cleaners, etc. This will hopefully keep them from blowing away in windy conditions. The Borough of Walnutport’s Recreation Board is not responsible for damage/destruction.
• In the event of bad weather, take the time to check your tree in case damage had occurred.
• Trees can start to be undecorated on Jan. 10, and will need to be undecorated by Jan. 16. All trees and tree stands will be disposed of on Jan. 18. Any decorations/lights remaining on the trees after that will be disposed of.
