WARRIORS WIN COAL BOWL SHOWCASE

The 18U Valley Regional Warrior fastpitch softball team went 5-0 to win the inaugural Coal Bowl Showcase tournament held recently in Mount Carmel. The Warriors outscored their opponents 53-0 in the tournament, allowing a combined total of just eight hits in the five games. It’s the third tournament win of the season for the Warriors, who feature three local players - Tamaqua’s Bryn Clifford and Lexi Thomas, and Northwestern’s Josie Wehr - on their roster. All three area players made major contributions toward the Warriors’ championship. Clifford went 7-for-12 at the plate with two stolen bases and five RBIs. She also was the winning pitcher in two of the games, tossing a combined nine innings and allowing just three hits while striking out 13. Thomas went 5-for-10 at the plate with four steals, and two RBIs. Wehr went 7-for-11 with a home run, four RBIs and two stolen bases.
