Allen O. Delke Post 16 holds Memorial Day services

On Sunday, members of Allen O. Delke Post 16 left the Post at 8 a.m. and conducted 10 memorial services with rifle salute and taps and returned to the post by noon for a meal prepared by the American Legion Auxiliary.

On Monday, members left the Post at 8 a.m. and conducted two cemetery services in remembrance of those who lost their lives at sea by placing flower petals in Trout Creek for their journey to the rivers, bays and oceans of the world.

A parade started 10 a.m. at South Street with the assistance of the Slatington Fire Police going down Main Street with Slatington and state police, dignitary car, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and many military vehicles ending at Second Street.

The main program was held 10:30 a.m. at Slatington Memorial Park.

Guest speaker was retired U.S. Navy Seabees Cmdr. Charles Richard Sherer.
