Officials have released the identity of the ice fisherman who drowned in Beltzville Lake Thursday.

Carbon County Deputy Coroner Gerald Jones Jr. identified the man as William Shipe of Bethlehem.

The 70-year-old man’s body was recovered from Beltzville State Park Friday morning a day after he left to go ice fishing and never returned.

Emergency crews resumed the search for the man at 9 a.m. Friday after he never returned from going ice fishing Thursday morning in the Preachers Camp area of the park.

Ben Monk, park manager, said emergency responders recovered the body at around 11 a.m.
