Carbon agency on aging creates Facebook page

Carbon County seniors and family members who utilize the Area Agency on Aging have a new source to receive information regarding events, updates and programs in the county.

On Thursday, Commissioner Chris Lukasevich announced that the Carbon County Area Agency on Aging has joined the number of county departments that have created Facebook pages to keep residents informed about important subjects.

He strongly encouraged seniors, age 60 and older; as well as family members who care for seniors to like the Facebook page.

“It will provide essential information,” he said.

Posts on the agency’s Facebook page so far include information on state programs, national nutrition month, reminders about LIHEAP deadlines, scams, vaccine information and more.

Carbon County has been working to enhance its social media presence over the last year, instituting a policy to help departments better serve the community through Facebook.

Departments that have Facebook pages include Carbon County Commissioners, Carbon County District Attorney, Carbon County Animal Shelter PA, Carbon County Veterans Affairs, Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, Carbon County Domestic Relations and Carbon County GIS.

In other senior news, Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said that the county is not ready to reopen the five senior centers, but noted that things may change next month as more people get vaccinated.
