Plenty of positions to be filled on county, township, borough and school levels in 2021 elections
If you’re interested in seeking elected offices in Carbon County, opportunities exist in all 23 municipalities and the six school districts, as well as three county row office positions that are up for grabs.
On the county level, the four-year terms of the Register of Wills and Clerk of the Orphans’ Court, Clerk of Courts and Treasurer are all expiring at the end of 2021, with officeholders to be elected in November, following nominating in the May 18 primary election by voters of the Democratic and Republican parties.
Townships
On the township level, here are the positions to be filled by the voters this year:
Banks: one supervisor, six-year term; one tax collector, four-year term; one auditor, six-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
East Penn: two supervisors, six-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; two auditors, one for a two-year term and one for a six-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Franklin: one supervisor, six-year term; one tax collector, four-year term; one auditor, six-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Kidder: three supervisors, one for a four-year term and two for six-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; one auditor, six-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Lausanne: one supervisor, six-year term; one tax collector, four-year term; two auditors, one for a four-year term and one for a six-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Lehigh: one supervisor, six-year term; one tax collector, four-year term; two auditors, one for a two-year term and one for a six-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Lower Towamensing: one supervisor, six-year term; one tax collector, four-year term; two auditors, one for a two-year term and one for a six-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Mahoning: two supervisors, six-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; one auditor, six-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Packer: one supervisor, six-year term; one tax collector, four-year term; two auditors, one for a two-year term and one for a six-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Penn Forest: two supervisors, six-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; two auditors, one for a two-year term and one for a six-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Towamensing: one supervisor, six-year term; one tax collector, four-year term; one auditor, six-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Boroughs
On the borough level, here are the positions to be filled by the voters this year:
Beaver Meadows: one mayor, four-year term; three council positions, four-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Bowmanstown: one mayor, four-year term; four council positions, four-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
East Side: one mayor, four-year term; four council positions, four-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Jim Thorpe: one mayor, four-year term; four council positions, four-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Lansford: one mayor, four-year term; three council positions, four-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Lehighton: one mayor, four-year term; three council positions, four-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Nesquehoning: one mayor, four-year term; three council positions, four-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Palmerton: one mayor, four-year term; four council positions, four-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Parryville: one mayor, four-year term; three council positions, four-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Summit Hill: one mayor, four-year term; four council positions, one for a two-year term and three for four-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Weatherly: four council positions, four year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
Weissport: one mayor, four-year term; four council positions, one for a two-year term and three for four-year terms; one tax collector, four-year term; and one constable, six-year term.
School districts
There are six school districts within the Carbon County boundaries. Jim Thorpe, Lehighton, Palmerton and Weatherly are all encompassed within the county. Panther Valley includes Lansford, Nesquehoning and Summit Hill in Carbon County and Coaldale in Schuylkill County, while the Hazleton district boundaries include the Carbon municipalities of Banks Township and Beaver Meadows Borough.
In each of the six districts, voters will elect four directors, all for four-year terms.
Election workers
Meanwhile, in each of the 51 election precincts in Carbon County, there is one judge of elections to be elected this year for four-year terms.
In addition, each district will elect two inspectors of elections for four-year terms. One inspector from each party gets elected.
Candidates get their names on the ballots for the respective positions they are seeking by filing nominating petitions at the Carbon County Bureau of Elections. The deadline for filing is March 9. The office has been temporarily relocated due to construction work taking place on Susquehanna Street in Jim Thorpe. The temporary office is located at 410 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe, which is the site of the former Jim Thorpe Area School District Administration Building.
