County to help COG with insurance for equipment

The Carbon County Council of Governments was created in 2013 to help municipalities save money on various projects and strengthen the base when applying for grants.

Over the years, the organization has purchased a street sweeper and asphalt zipper for use within its membership.

On Thursday, the Carbon County Commissioners unanimously voted to help the COG, of which the county is also a member, by putting these pieces of equipment on the county’s insurance policy.

According to the agreement, the county will assume the insurance, while the equipment maintenance, upkeep and housing will remain the responsibility of the COG.

Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said that the purpose of the COG was to work together and save money on things and this action will help accomplish that mission.

Approximately 18 of the 24 municipalities are members of the COG and have worked on a number of projects to share services and cut down expenses.

By the county insuring the equipment, municipality costs for renting out the zipper or street sweeper will save some money.
