Palmerton Borough Council took the following action on Thursday:
• Approved Todd Merkel’s rate as public works supervisor at a salary of $60,320, effective March 2.
• Hired Bradlee Clewell as mechanic at the rate of $17.24 an hour, with employment subject to passing a pre-employment physical and obtaining his CDL and PA Inspector licenses within six months.
• Approved the first reading of an ordinance, stop signs at intersections, to place a stop sign at Edgemont Avenue and Linden Street to control traffic on east and west Edgemont Avenue, as there are no signs there.
• Extended the declaration of disaster emergency effective March 19, and will extend for a period of 90 days.
• Approved a request from the Parryville Fire Company to hold a yard sale to benefit their fire company in the Palmerton Borough Park on May 29, with a rain date of May 30.
• Tabled a request from Carbon County asking to use the Palmerton Municipal Fire Company as a polling place. The matter will be listed on council’s March 25 meeting agenda.
