Summit Hill mayor won’t seek re-election

Paul R. McArdle, who has served as Summit Hill’s mayor for the past 20 years, said this is his final term.

McArdle, a Democrat, said he will not seek re-election.

“I think it’s time,” he said of his decision to retire.

He said he’s making the announcement because “I want to give anybody that wants to run time to do so.”

McArdle also had served on Summit Hill Borough Council for two years.

He and his wife, Geraldine “Gerry” McArdle, who died on Sept. 2, 1998, had five children and 12 grandchildren.

McArdle is a life member of the Summit Hill American Legion, where he served as a past commander and a past adjutant.

He is a life member of the of the AMVETS, Nesquehoning VFW Post 8008, 24th Infantry Division Association and Marine Corps League No. 626.

For the past 22 years he has served as a member of the Summit Hill Fire Police.

He also is a member of Summit Hill’s Diligence Fire Company.

He belongs to the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Jim Thorpe, the Chapel of Four Chaplains, the Knights of Columbus where he is a Fourth Degree, and Associate Member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge B.
