Pa. reports over 600,000 cases to date

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Monday that there were 3,779 additional positive cases of COVID-19, in addition to 4,884 new cases reported Sunday, for a two-day total of 8,663, bringing the statewide total to 613,804.

There are 5,905 people hospitalized with COVID-19, near double the peak in the spring. Of that number, 1,145 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older

Local numbers

Carbon County has 25 new cases, bringing the total to 2,598. Deaths remain at 90.

Lehigh County has 19,449 cases to date, an increase of 169. Two new deaths were reported for a total of 481.

In Luzerne County, there are 16,511 cases, reflecting an increase of 74. Four new deaths were reported, bringing the total to 439.

Monroe County added 50 new cases, for a total of 5,797. Deaths remain at 193 to date.

In Northampton County, 114 new cases were reported, bringing the running total to 15,893. One more death was reported for a total of 411 deaths to date.

Schuylkill County has 7,434 cases, an increase of 53 cases. There are 236 deaths, an increase of one.
