Pa. reports 7,962 additional cases Tuesday

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Tuesday that there were 7,962 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 571,551.

There are 6,090 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19, double the peak in the spring. Of that number, 1,217 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

Local numbers

Carbon County reported 2,328 cases, an increase of 55 since Monday. Deaths remain at 87.

Lehigh County reported 17,883 an increase of 215 since Monday. Ten more death were reported for a total of 454.

Luzerne County has 15,426 cases, an uptick of 86. The county reported three more deaths, bringing the total to 409.

Monroe reported 5,366, an increase of 73. Deaths remain at 188.

Northampton County reported 14,638 cases, 195 more than Monday. There are 391 deaths after seven more were reported Tuesday.

Schuylkill reported 6,714, 137 more than last Monday. Three more deaths were reported for a running total of 228.
