Pa. reports over 11,000 positive cases Thursday

The Pennsylvania Department of Health confirmed Thursday that there were 11,406 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 386,837. This is the highest daily increase of COVID-19 cases.

There are 4,982 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 1,048 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

The number of tests administered within the last 7 days between Nov. 26 and Dec. 2 is 381,784 with 47,602 positive cases. There were 67,067 test results reported to the department through 10 p.m., December 2. This is the highest number of test results reported to date.

Local numbers

• Carbon County is reporting 1,458 cases, an increase of 37 since Wednesday. Deaths remain at 57.

• In Lehigh County, there are 12,070 cases, an increase of 202 since Wednesday. Deaths are now at 392 after five more were reported Thursday.

• Luzerne County reported 10,460 cases, 362 more since Wednesday. Ten more deaths have been reported on Thursday, which brings the running total to 304.

• Monroe County has 3,663, an increase of 106. Two more deaths were reported for a total of 155.

• In Northampton County, there are 9,632 cases, an increase of 188. Four more deaths were been reported for a total of 340.

• Schuylkill County has 4,345 cases, an additional 92 since Wednesday. Three more deaths are attributed to COVID-19, bringing the total to 184.
