Pa. update: 11,837 new virus cases in 2 days

The Pennsylvania Department of Health Monday confirmed as of midnight that there were 4,762 new virus cases, in addition to 7,075 new cases reported Sunday for a two-day total of 11,837 additional positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the statewide total to 314,401.

There are 3,379 individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Of that number, 775 patients are in the intensive care unit with COVID-19. Most of the patients hospitalized are ages 65 or older, and most of the deaths have occurred in patients 65 or older.

The trend in the 14-day moving average of number of hospitalized patients per day has increased by nearly 2,100 since the end of September.

Statewide percent positivity for the week of Nov. 13 – Nov. 19 stood at 11.1%.

As of 11:59 p.m., Saturday, there were 41 new deaths and as of 11:59 p.m., Sunday, there were 28 new deaths reported for a total of 9,870 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

In nursing and personal care homes, there are 32,198 resident cases of COVID-19, and 6,407 cases among employees, for a total of 38,605 at 1,224 distinct facilities in 64 counties. Out of our total deaths, 6,270 have occurred in residents from nursing or personal care facilities. A county breakdown can be found here.

Approximately 14,070 of our total cases are among health care workers.

Locally, new cases in a two-day period are:

• Carbon County reported 1,076 cases, an increase of 48 since Saturday. Five additional deaths have been reported for at total of 45. Lehigh County 10,059 cases, an increase of 365. Deaths remain at 379. Luzerne County reported 8,396, an increase of 240 cases. Four additional deaths have been reported for a total of 250. Monroe County reported 2,931 cases, an increase of 87. Deaths remain at 138. Northampton County reported 7,984 cases, an increase of 318 cases. Two additional deaths have been reported, which brings the total to 328. Schuylkill County reported 3,474, an increase of 143. Two more deaths were reported, which brings the total to 159.
