2nd Pl. Valley teacher tests positive

Pleasant Valley School District informed parents Wednesday morning that another teacher at the high school has been confirmed positive with COVID-19. The teacher has not been in the high school since Friday.

The district learned of the result Tuesday night.

“We are following our health and safety plan and taking all the necessary safety precautions, including contacting the PA Department of Health. All individuals who have been in close contact have been notified and operations at the high school will continue as normal Oct. 1,” Superintendent Lee Lesisiko said in a statement.

“We will continue transparent communication when there is a confirmed positive case of COVID-19.”

The school district closed the high school for classes from Monday through Wednesday after a teacher from the Monroe Career and Technical Institute reported testing positive for COVID-19 on Sunday. The teacher had taught a class at the high school on Thursday.

MCTI also closed classes during this period, and stated on its website that two staff people had been diagnosed with COVID-19.

A state Department of Education policy requires that a school be closed for cleaning following two positive COVID -19 cases within 15 days, Lesisko said. The first case of a teacher at the high school testing positive for COVID-19 was reported on Friday morning.

Classes remained in person at the elementary school, intermediate school and middle school. Classes at the high school will resume Thursday as planned.
