Survivor to speak on sons’ deaths due to ex-boyfriend’s actions

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, domestic violence survivor, Susan Major, a Luzerne County resident, will be the guest speaker at Domestic Violence Service Center’s “Empty Place at the Table.”

In 2017, Susan’s life changed forever when a former boyfriend that she kicked out of her house started her Laflin home on fire while her three sons were home and she was at work.

The fire took the lives Erik, 16, and Devon, 12, who passed away at the scene. Her youngest, Ezekiel, 7, passed three days later at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

This annual event is a memorial to victims who have lost their lives to domestic violence in Luzerne and Carbon counties.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this year’s event will be virtual and streamed on Facebook on Oct. 1. The link is www.facebook.com/Domestic-Violence-Service-Center-DVSC.

Since 1976, the Domestic Violence Service Center has been providing services to victims of domestic violence and their dependent children.
