Nesquehoning adopts two ordinances

Nesquehoning Borough Council adopted two ordinances last week.

During council’s monthly voting meeting on Wednesday, the board approved officially naming two streets off Market Street near the area of the wash shanty; as well as amending the NFPA Life Safety Code.

The two new streets are coal company access roads and were named Little Italy Road and Mt. Pisgah Road.

Last month, John McArdle, borough emergency management coordinator, told the board the company requested naming the two access roads and gave the suggested names.

With regard to the life safety code amendment, the board approved updating the code enforcement ordinance section 401, which was last updated in Jan. 24, 2010.

Council also briefly discussed Halloween but did not officially announce specifics on trick-or-treat night.

Officials want the public to know for those who decide to participate, they should practice social distancing, not bringing trick-or-treaters into homes and wear masks.

An official announcement on details will be made after further discussion takes place.
