Schuylkill to buy new cameras
Security is getting an upgrade at several county buildings.
The Schuylkill County Commissioners voted last Wednesday at their weekly meeting to enter into an agreement with Johnson Controls, York, to install new cameras at the parking area of the Children and Youth building office space, elevator and parking lot and the parking lot area of the 410 building, which houses the office of District Magistrate James K. Reiley, Pottsville.
The $29,881.30 cost includes upgrades to older cameras, cabling, installation, programming and testing.
Chief Sheriff Deputy Brian Tobin said the cameras, about 10 of them, should arrive in four to six weeks.
“We are looking at our security to keep things modernized,” he said.
Commissioners also voted on other public safety related items, deciding to purchase six Nomad remote computer assisted direction positions for $60,516 from Logisys of Missoula, Montana.
County Administrator Gary Bender said the devices provide longitude and latitude coordinates for responders, making it more accurate.
Federal COVID-19 money will pay for the equipment, which could arrive by next month.
“It allows us to still maintain emergency services” in the event 911 employees must work remotely, he said.
The county previously voted to buy equipment for the 911 center totaling $2.197 million from Motorola Solutions Inc.
The adult probation department will have a new 2021 Police Interceptor vehicle after commissioners approved the purchase. Funds for the $37,086.87 vehicle come from offender supervision fee money. It will be purchased through Sands Ford of Pottsville.
