Summit Hill Borough Council

Summit Hill Borough Council on Monday voted on or discussed the following items:

• Council has agreed to refinance a $1.5 million bond issue which could result in a $90,000 savings. The refinancing will be through Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank.

• Action was tabled on naming a new solicitor for the Zoning Hearing Board and Planning Commission. The council said it received letters of interest from four attorneys interested in serving as solicitor. It wants to interview the candidates before making a decision.

The previous solicitor, attorney Michael Garfield, served for well over 20 years until his retirement earlier this year.

• Council member Michael Alabovitz praised the borough workers for improvements to the basketball court at the Little League fields in the northeastern part of the town. Alabovitz said the borough workers repaved the courts, cleaned them and did new line striping.

• The council was informed its zoning officers continue to pursue the owner of the Bott Building on East Ludlow Street about structural violations.

Kira Steber, secretary-treasurer, said, “It’s getting more and more dilapidated by the day.” She said the building already is condemned.

• St. John’s and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church were given permission to have outdoor services at the gazebo in Ludlow Park on Aug. 30, Sept. 13, Sept. 27, Oct. 11 and Oct. 25, beginning at 9 a.m.

• Permission was given to Mickey Coleman for recitation of the Rosary at Ludlow Park on Oct. 10 commencing at noon.

• Dean Strohl Jr. was given permission to use the Ginder Field pavilion on Aug. 29, for a birthday party.

• A request from local band members seeking to use Ginder Field for marching/concert band practice every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday beginning Sept. 8 was tabled because the request didn’t state what band is making the request.
