Bowmanstown to celebrate completion of road project

After months of construction, Bowmanstown will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the soon-to-be completed Lime Street this Sunday.

The project, which connects Lime Street to Spring Street, was taken on by the Tamaqua-based Ankiewicz Enterprises around this time last year for a total cost of more than $800,000.

Now, borough council revealed Tuesday, the project’s completion will be celebrated this weekend, on Aug. 9.

The event will take place at the lower end of the street under a tarp in case of rain.

It will start at 1 p.m.

Jessica Rehrig, engineer, said finishing touches on Lime Street, such as fencing construction and tree planting, will take place throughout the remainder of August.

Council also decided Tuesday:

• To inform potential developers interested in the 21 lots in Meadowcrest that a prospective plan needs to be submitted. The developers, unnamed at council’s August meeting, asked council if it would be willing to waive some fees associated with the project, but solicitor Lisa Pereira said some costs couldn’t be put off; any fees that could be waived would need to be negotiated after a plan is presented.

“If it gives us a way to develop the land, and improve our streets, and our utilities, it’d be crazy not to look at it,” Councilman Rob Moyer said.

• Reopening the municipal office on Ore Street. The body resolved to open the building by appointment for business needing to be done in person. Most services will still be accessible through a phone call.
