Albrightsville man jailed after assault with knife

Sydney Chase, 52, of Albrightsville, was committed to the Carbon County Correctional Facility in Nesquehoning, following an incident at 8:16 p.m. May 15 at a residence on Short Ridge Road in Penn Forest Township.

State police at Fern Ridge said he and a 43-year-old woman from Albrightsville were engaged in an argument, and Chase locked himself inside a bedroom in the home. Police said the woman used a knife to open the bedroom door, and Chase yelled that he was going to kill the woman.

Police said the man grabbed her arm and twisted it behind her back, causing her injuries to her arm and shoulder and a cut on the right thumb.

During the incident, a 17-year-old boy from Albrightsville attempted to intervene and sustained two cuts on his fingers.

Police said Chase turned himself in at the barracks. He was arraigned on charges of assault with a deadly weapon, terroristic threats, endangering the welfare of children and harassment. He couldn’t pay $5,000 in bail and remains in jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 8.
