Lehigh Gap Nature Center events

There are a number of events coming up at Lehigh Gap Nature Center, located at 8844 Paint Mill Road, Slatington.

• Dec. 19: Cabin Fever Book Club, 10 a.m. The book is “Anthill” by E.O. Wilson.

• Jan. 7: Winter fit walks, 10 a.m. Walks are held Tuesdays and Thursdays from January through March. All ages and abilities welcome. Registration is not required.

• Jan. 8: Watercolor for beginners, 10 a.m. Taught by Kay Stauffer. This is the first in a series of eight classes that will meet at the nature center from Jan. 8 through Feb. 26. Registration is required and there is a fee for all eight classes.

• Jan. 9: Long-term studies of bat populations in the Delaware Water Gap, 7 p.m. This is part of the speaker series. East Stroudsburg University mammalogist Howard “Sandy” Whidden will discuss his long-term research on the bats of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. He will include an overview of the natural history of our local bats and then discuss changes to the bat community following the appearance of the introduced fungal disease white-nose syndrome.
