‘Lunch Fore Sight’ to be held in Monroe

A unique luncheon event will put people in the shoes of those with visual impairments as a way to gain a greater firsthand appreciation for those suffering from sight loss.

The Center for Vision Loss will hold the 2019 Monroe Lunch Fore Sight, sponsored in part by St. Luke’s University Health Network and Tree Course Adventures, at the Shawnee Inn and Golf Resort on Sept. 27.

The event, which begins at 11 a.m., will include a putting contest in which participants wear either a blindfold or goggles that simulate eye conditions.

Guests also will be encouraged to wear blindfolds as they eat lunch. The lunch will be followed by a special presentation of the agency’s Low Vision Road Show, which introduces technologies and devices that empower people with vision loss to perform everyday tasks.

A prize raffle will be held during the luncheon. Event proceeds benefit The Center for Vision Loss services in Monroe County.

The Center for Vision Loss near Stroudsburg is the only service agency that advances independence for the visually impaired and healthy eyesight in Monroe County, along with Lehigh and Northampton counties.

The putting contest is sponsored by A Definite Edge Management Consulting.

Services at The Center for Vision Loss include help for people with acute vision loss by providing access to medical care and food supplies, skills and technologies that improve capabilities, and a greater quality of life.

Its screenings for preschool children prepare students to learn successfully, and its community education programs empower adults to preserve their visual capabilities.

The agency provides its services at little or no cost, and more than three-quarters of its vision loss clients are from low-income households.
