Speaker to discuss discoveries and inventions

The Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum will host historian and engineer Peter Kern at 1 p.m. Oct. 27.

Kern will present a slide/lecture on “From Inkpots to Artificial Intelligence: Discoveries and Inventions that Affect our Daily Lives.”

Admission to the event is free to members, $8 for adult nonmembers and $3 for nonmember children.

Kern’s presentation will reveal stories of critical discoveries and inventions that have transformed human history.

“Technology and its impact are pressing issues in modern culture,” said Joseph Garrera, executive director of the museum. “The presentation will fascinate anyone interested in exploring these issues in a historical context.”

“Discoveries that seem insignificant today may have a profound effect months, years or even decades from now,” Kern said. “We all know the story of how Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs worked together in a garage to create the first Apple computer. Who could have foreseen where it would take us?”

Kern’s career spanned decades as a professional engineer. His fascination with the intersection of technology and history led him to explore the evolution of some of the discoveries that have changed our lives.
