Monday’s meeting of the Weissport Borough Council was limited to only a few items following the resignation of borough Secretary/Treasurer Cheryl Miller, and there not being a prepared agenda.

Councilman Bill Hartzell said Miller did not submit a written resignation.

“She handed in her keys and said she was done; her other job was too demanding, and she did not have the time to put in,” Hartzell said.

Borough Solicitor Greg Mousseau said council could accept the return of Miller’s keys as her resignation. Miller’s last day was July 21.

“Pennsylvania law says to have a valid meeting in Pennsylvania, your agenda has to be posted 48 hours in advance of the meeting,” Mousseau said. “Since there is no agenda, you will be very limited as to what you can do.”

Despite those limitations, council voted to appoint James Baumgardner to fill the fifth vacancy on the board. Mousseau administered the oath of office, and Baumgardner took his seat on council.

Council also voted to authorize Councilwoman Jennifer Ketchledge to access the borough’s computer system to prepare bills for payment.

Council will hold another meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 17 at the borough office, 440 Allen St. The meeting will be held in place of the workshop session normally scheduled for the third Monday of the month.

Road project

The White Street Project is slated to begin on Aug. 17.

During the project, there will be no parking along the 300 and 400 blocks of White Street, although residents would be able to park there after hours.

Specific details and hours will be posted soon.

“They will start the project by installing handicapped ramps at the intersections,” Borough Engineer Mike Muffley said.
