Multiple tips from the public has led to the successful identification of a juvenile who robbed a business in Lehighton early Monday morning.

The Lehighton Borough Police Department announced after noon on Monday it was seeking information on the identity of the individual.

Police were dispatched at around 4 a.m. to 701 Mahoning St., “Olde Tyme Corner Store” for a report of a burglary in progress.

Police said the offender was observed by store video surveillance breaking through the front door of the business, enter the store through a broken glass panel and remove over $400 of merchandise from within.

Police said the offender then fled the area on foot, last seen running south on Seventh Street from the business.

Police said the offender appeared to be a male with an athletic build, wearing a ski mask to obscure his face, dark short sleeve “Lil Wayne THA CARTER” T-shirt, black shorts, white socks and black slides (Puma brand).

The scene was processed by the Lehighton Borough Police Investigations Unit. Fingerprints and blood evidence was collected at the scene.

Merchandise from the business was found along South Seventh Street, between Mahoning Street and Iron Street.

Later Monday afternoon, the Lehighton Borough Police Department issued a statement noting that “as our detective was following up on the leads provided, the juvenile offender and family did respond to our station, turned himself in and returned the merchandise stolen from the business. We can confirm, the offender has been identified and the juvenile offender and family is cooperating with our department.”

Due to the age of the offender, his identity will not be released, the police department said.

The incident remains under investigation and charges will be reviewed by the Carbon County District Attorney’s office this week, the police department said.
