Carbon Commissioners approve appointments

Carbon County officials made a number of appointments to various authorities and commissions on Thursday.

Scott Mosier of Palmerton was appointed as a farmer director on the Conservation District board. He serves a four-year term. Merle B. Hunsicker of Lehighton and Commissioner Wayne E. Nothstein were also both reappointed to serve on the Conservation District board. Hunsicker will serve a four-year term as a public director, while Nothstein will serve as a commissioner representative for one year.

William George of Aquashicola was reappointed to a five-year term on the Housing Authority.

Timm Berger of Lehighton was appointed to fill an unexpired term on the Carbon County Planning Commission. His term expires Dec. 31, 2020.

Other business

The commissioners approved the following items during their weekly meeting:

• 911 Statewide Interconnectivity Funding Grant agreement with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency for $14,563 to be used toward the county’s cost associated with the Northeast Core ESInet maintenance project.

• The price increase for the current contract with Cost Management Plus Inc. of Harrisburg for the Prison Inmate Medical Cost Containment program. The fee increases to $24,364, effective November 2017.

• Letter of agreement with the Carbon County Action Committee for Human Services for administration of the Homeless Assistance Program through June 30, 2018, in the amount of $26,759.

• A proposal by Concrete Alternatives of Drums for prepping and painting the kennel floor and walls at the Carbon County Animal Shelter in Nesquehoning with commercial grade epoxy. The total cost is $9,834.24.

• Retirement: Leh Ann Light of Lehighton, clerk/PFAD coordinator in the prothonotary’s office, effective Dec. 12.

• Clerk of courts appointment: Jennifer L. Flexer of Palmerton, clerical specialist, effective Dec. 4.

• Court appointment: Emily R. Nerino of Jim Thorpe, summer law clerk, effective Dec. 13.

• Hires: Joseph P. Gannecilli of Tamaqua and Kendall J. Juracka of Jim Thorpe, part-time corrections officers, effective Dec. 4.
