Teen bicyclist dies after striking car

A Shenandoah teen died Thursday morning as a result of an accident in the borough on Wednesday afternoon.

Scott Ort, 13, of Cherry Street, Shenandoah was riding his bicycle downhill on South Gilbert Street at 5:15 p.m. when he entered the intersection with Centre Street, striking a 2009 Dodge Journey driven by Kara Lynn Moser, 40, of Lansford.

Ort was treated at the scene by Shenandoah ALS and transported to a Pottsville Hospital. He was then airlifted to Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, in Salisbury Township, where he was pronounced dead at 3:18 a.m. Thursday.

Lehigh County First Deputy Coroner Eric Minnich reports the teen’s death was caused by a closed head injury, ruling the manner of death as accidental.

Moser was traveling west on Centre Street at the time of the accident. She told police she was on her way to her daughter’s basketball game at Shenandoah Valley High School, with three passengers, her husband and two juveniles, in her vehicle. None of the Journey’s occupants reported any injuries.

There are no charges pending against Moser, according to Shenandoah Police Lt. Gary Keppel.

Assisting police at the scene were Shenandoah firefighters and fire police.
