Nesquehoning adopts new alarm ordinance

Nesquehoning Borough Council officials are cracking down on repeat offenders when it comes to alarm systems.

On Wednesday, council voted to adopt its new avoidable alarm ordinance, which amends the current ordinance to make it unlawful to have avoidable alarms that are caused by improperly maintained or defective alarm systems or the negligent or careless triggering of the same alarm.The new ordinance regulates repeat offenders, who would then be subjected to penalties for the violations.In other matters, council discussed the following items:• The next Nesquehoning Neighborhood Watch meeting will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 5 in the borough hall. There will be no August meeting.• For the month of June, the police collected $2,457.63; issued 38 citations; responded to 459 incidents; and drove 4,199 miles while on patrol.• For June, the Nesquehoning Ambulance responded to 33 calls and traveled 549 miles. For the year-to-date, the ambulance responded to 185 calls and drove 2,959 miles.• Fire departments responded to 17 calls for June and a total of 78 for the year.• The Carbon County Veterans Day Parade will be held in Nesquehoning this year. The parade will be held at 2 p.m. Nov. 5.• Nesquehoning collected 2,254 pounds of electronics during its spring electronics recycling event.• Council adopted a resolution waiving the mandatory 3 percent pension deduction for nonuniform pension employees for 2017 and 2018.• The next borough council workshop, scheduled for Aug. 9, will begin at 5:30 p.m. instead of 6 p.m.
