Nesquehoning VFW Auxiliary to Post 8008 meets

The regular monthly meeting of the VFW Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial Post 8008 was held on May 12, with President Christa Kattner presiding at the session.

General Orders 10 were read and filed for action. Information on the Veterans Voice Program and the National Convention, to be held July 24-26 in New Orleans, were also received, along with a thank you from the Drigan family.Guest Lois Corby of the Nesquehoning Historical Society spoke to the members on doing a banner program in the town.All were in favor of the project. More information will be available in the near future.Under veterans and family support, 100 cards were sent, 11 wreaths made by a member for Memorial Day services and several phone calls and emails to legislators were reported. An upcoming Paint and Sip evening is being planned, date will be announced when set.The Buddy Poppy Queen is Kensington Strohl; Melissa Lilly will be her court. Poppy King is Zane Strohl, his court will be Jesse Ellis, Riley Gagnon and Ethan Lilly. Buddy Poppy Days at Redner's will be May 19-21. The Buddy Poppies are made by disabled veterans, and the proceeds are used by the local organization for veterans programs.The annual Loyalty Day Program, held on May 1, was successful. The annual JROTC Awards night will be May 24; Tony DeMarco will present the auxiliary awards.Mary Arieta and Maureen Hirochek recently attended a recruiting session for membership in Gettysburg. Delegates and alternates were elected for the district, department and national conventions.Memorial Day weekend will be a very busy weekend for the local veterans organizations. Joint Installation of post and auxiliary officers will be held onMay 26, beginning at 7 p.m. Approximately 50 members of the Knauf family are expected for the Memorial Day weekend. A dinner will be held in their honor at 5 p.m. onMay 27.Outlying cemetery services will be held onMay 28. Those participating should meet at the VFW by 11:30, and leave at noon. The annual Memorial Day Parade will be held onMay 29; the units will form up at the Recreation Center and pull out promptly at 8:30 a.m.Following the parade the main services will be held in front of the VFW Post home. All members are encouraged to participate.The next regular meeting will be held at 1 p.m. onJune 11.
