Palmerton native featured in Misericordia musical

Palmerton native Sam Midkiff will join the Misericordia Players in a production of Stephen Schwartz's musical "Godspell" this spring.

"Godspell" is a musical rendition of the Gospel according to Matthew set in modern New York City written by John-Michael Tebelak. The familiar story of Jesus Christ is conveyed through song and dance as he recruits and educates his apostles, spreading a message of love and tolerance, concluding with his betrayal by Judas and crucifixion.The original production of the show opened off-Broadway in 1971. One of the production's songs, "Day by Day," hit No. 13 on the Billboard pop singles chart in 1972. An acclaimed revival performance of the musical ran from Oct. 2011 to June 2012."Godspell" will run from April 6 to the 9 at the Lemmond Theater at Walsh Hall on the Misericordia University campus, with performances on April 6 to 8 at 8 p.m., and the closing Sunday performance at 2 p.m. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or online at

www.misericordia.edu/godspell. General admission is $8, and $5 for seniors, Misericordia students, and alumni.
