Hartung is candidate for Tamaqua mayor

Christine Rottet Hartung has announced her candidacy for the office of mayor of Tamaqua.

Hartung is a graduate of St. Jerome's Regional School, Tamaqua Area High School and Reading Hospital School of Nursing.The candidate has lived in Tamaqua the past 27 years, serving the local community and providing care to the sick.She has been an active member of the Tamaqua Area Zoning Board for the past 25 years and has volunteered in many different capacities over the years.Hartung is very involved raising her two sons, Christopher and Connor, and has been with her husband, Ernie, for 25 years.She also has a stepson Josh; his wife, Mary; and daughter Evey.She has coached ESRC basketball, Little League Baseball, CYO basketball and represented the CYO as the district representative for years.Hartung also directed the children's choir at St. Jerome's Regional School for years and was a cantor for masses and funerals.She participated many years as a member of the bicentennial committee, which initiated the annual ball drop New Year's Eve at the Tamaqua High Rise.She volunteered and helped for years with the spirit of Christmas festival.She was a member of the Tamaqua Beautification committee until it dissolved due to lack of members.She is an active member of the Pennsylvania Nurses Association, winning the nursing excellence award for accountability in 2014.Hartung has volunteered for the annual cancer telethon for many years. She is one of seven children of Kay Ann Rottet and the late Thomas Rottet.As mayor, she will continue to fight the war on drugs, promote police and citizenship protection, encourage local employment opportunities, and promote love thy neighbor, help thy neighbor attitudes.
