Widener announces leadership awards

Widener University, in partnership with WCAU-TV NBC10, announced the winners of the Widener University High School Leadership Awards.

Local residents who won a leadership award are: Joel Hinkle, Weatherly Area High School; Ashleigh Miller, Carbon Career and Technical Institute; and Hanna Nesfeder, Palmerton Area High School.

In its sixth year, the program recognized 174 students from high schools in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware who demonstrated courage and leadership within their communities.

Winners are invited to a celebration at the National Constitution Center on March 23, and a leadership conference at Widener University in the fall of 2017.

Winners will receive a scholarship of $20,000 over four years should they enroll at Widener University for undergraduate studies.
