PV JROTC in national championship

The Panther Valley JROTC Academic team is moving on to participate the 2016 Army JROTC Academic Bowl Championship in Washington, D.C. from June 24-28 on the campus of The Catholic University of America.

The team includes cadets McKenzie Lazar, Sarah Markovich, Cassandra Woodward and Amarynth Ruch.The team finished two phases of online competition at Panther Valley High School. During the two preliminary rounds, students were tested on their knowledge of JROTC curriculum, English, math and science.They will now compete in person at the championship this weekend.The event is sponsored by the Army JROTC and is led by College Options Foundation.The Panther Valley Academic JROTC team earned top scores among the 1,498 Army JROTC teams that competed globally.This team is one of only 24 teams in the nation advancing to the national championship.The winner of the championship will then compete against the winners of the Air Force, Marine Corps, and Navy JROTC Academic Bowls in the JROTC Joint Service Academic Bowl.Residents can watch the competition live through the JROTC Leadership and Academic Bowl's YouTube Livestream playlist at bit.ly/jlab2016.The Army JROTC academic championship will be broadcast at 3:45 p.m. on Sunday with the Joint Service Bowl Academic Championship taking place at 5 p.m. Sunday.
