Coaldale Borough's secretary has resigned less than a year after taking the job.

Melissa Malatak submitted her resignation prior to council's meeting on Tuesday, however she did not attend.Her last day will be June 3.Malatak was hired in July as a part-time employee. However she was given an annual salary of $13,250.Council accepted her resignation Tuesday night. The vote was unanimous among the four members who were present at the meeting.President Thomas Keerans, Michael Doerr and Francis Hutta Jr. were absent."She turned it in, that's what she wants," board member Harry Hontz said.Malatak was not available Thursday. Calls placed to the borough office were directed to a full voicemail box.A note on the door of the borough office said that the office would be closed Thursday and reopen Friday.At Tuesday's meeting, assistant secretary/treasurer Anissa Nunemacher sat in the secretary's seat at the board table and took minutes.- Chris Reber
