Tamaqua school board

Tamaqua Area School District has agreed to apply for disaster relief as the result of the January winter storm. The board earlier this month agreed to authorize administration to execute the required forms and documents for the purpose of obtaining financial assistance under the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act for the storm.

Other actionThe board approved, on a 6-0 vote, with directors Daniel Schoener, Thomas Rottet and Aaron Frantz absent:• Resignations of Donna Boyea and Kayla Kromer as part-time paraprofessionals.• Retirement of Geraldine Homa, elementary school nurse, effective May 27.• Retirement of Elaine Fowler, elementary health room assistant, effective May 27.• Appointments of Tim Martino, Nicole Wasserleben and Tihanne Wright as substitute custodians.• Appointments of Bridget Gaughan, Suzanne Lobichusky and Kelly Pleva as substitute professional guest teachers.• Granted Caitlin Miller permission to attend the conference Pragmatic Organization, Dynamic Organization, Dynamic Display, Multi-Modal Communication Strategies for Children Who Have Complex Needs, from May 5-6, in Annapolis, Maryland.• Approved signs for the Rush softball field.• Approved the sale of a parcel located at 0 Gold Road, Rush Township, for the purchase price of $924 to Jerry G. Adrey Jr. of Mahanoy City.• Approved an affiliation agreement with Capella University for field experience in the 2016-17 school year.• Appointed Berkheimer, Bangor, for a two-year and nine-month contract, effective April 1, 2016, through Dec. 31, 2018.
