Carbon County's court system is finalizing the details on who will take the lead of the county's adult probation office once its chief retires.

Ron Kokinda, who has served as the chief adult probation officer for the county for the last 26 years and is one of the longest-tenured chief probation officers in the state, will retire on June 3.On Thursday, during the monthly county salary board meeting, the board approved the establishment of a chief adult probation officer trainee position at $63,663.60 a year, effective Friday.Roberta Brewster, county court administrator, said the position has been offered and the person has agreed to take it, but the county must wait on all clearances to come back before formalizing the new employment.She did say that the person taking over the adult probation office, who was one of about 15 applicants, has "impeccable credentials.""He comes from a very large county and has 25 years of experience in adult probation, with nine of those being the deputy chief," Brewster said.In other salary board business, the board approved the following salary changes:• Establish the position of one domestic relations specialist II at $11.26 per hour, effective April 7.• Change the rate of one domestic relations specialist I from $10.51 per hour to $10.21 per hour, effective April 7.• Change the rate of one clerical specialist in the clerk of courts office from $10.83 per hour to $10.21 per hour, effective April 11.• Change the rate of one automation clerk in the prothonotary's office from $10.21 per hour to $10.51 per hour, effective April 13.• Change the salary of one full-time assistant public defender from $55,729.18 per year to $52,000 per year, effective April 7.• Change the salary of one temporary assistant public defender from $8,300 per year to $7,140.65 per year, under contract, effective April 11 to June 19.• Change the rate of one seasonal park ranger I from $13.44 per hour to $11.26 per hour, effective April 7.
