A Carbon County woman was sentenced to a county prison term on Tuesday in the county court on a drug dealing charge.

Barbara J. Hiler, 39, of Jim Thorpe, was sentenced to serve three to one day less 24 months on a charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance-hydrocodone, by Judge Steven R. Serfass, who rejected a plea to impose a house arrest term. The jail term will be followed by one year of probation.Hiler was arrested by agents of the state Attorney General's office on Sept. 12, 2013, along South Street in Jim Thorpe. She sold hydrocodone to a confidential informant.She was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked for testing positive for methamphetamine.Defense Attorney Gregory Lee Mousseau, of the public defender's office, asked Serfass to impose a house arrest term. He said Hiler has two children she must care for, one his late teens and another younger girl, both with problems.She told Serfass she began using meth because of depression and stress issues she had. She also said she and her husband are struggling financially.Serfass said he felt Hiler's plea for house arrest was heartfelt and sincere, but he added she was given an opportunity by the commonwealth by agreeing to let her enter the ARD program. He said, "You violated that program when you tested for drugs, which violated the zero tolerance." He added, "You were told at the time this was an opportunity given you."Serfass also said he had to take into consideration the gravity of the crime and the protection of the public.In addition to the jail term Serfass ordered Hiler to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, supply a DNA sample, render 150 hours of community service after her release on parole, pay court costs of about $1,000, and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and probation.She will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on Jan. 2.
