A Lansford man faces a long list of charges after he led police in Lehigh County on a high-speed chase last month.

Kenneth Charles Conklin Jr. was also wanted for stealing a vehicle in Lansford at the time of his arrest.State police in Lehigh County hit Conklin with three felony charges after he was arrested in Upper Macungie Township last week.On Dec. 9, according to court documents, police pulled over a 1999 Dodge Stratus after a passenger had thrown a lit cigarette out the window at a stoplight on Route 222.While the trooper was running a check on the vehicle's registration, the driver took off in the vehicle. Police observed the vehicle running a solid red light and traveling the wrong way in the opposite lane of traffic. The driver turned abruptly into a private hunting club, driving past target shooters who were shooting at the time. He then drove through a wooded area near the Lehigh Valley Velodrome, and a softball field.Ultimately, police tracked the car's muddy tire marks to an apartment complex where the driver had parked it outside.Police set up a perimeter and took the driver, later identified as Conklin, into custody. He was in possession of a hypodermic needle and a .22-caliber pistol, which he did not have a license for. They said he appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.During an interview, he admitted that he was en route to purchase an ounce of methamphetamine with $1,500 he had in his possession.The passenger in the vehicle was, a 16-year-old girl, also taken into custody. She was found to be in the possession of a bag of a white crystal substance believed to be methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. She was identified as Conklin's niece.Conklin was charged with endangering the welfare of children, carrying a firearm illegally, and fleeing and eluding, all felonies. He also faces a long list of misdemeanors. He was booked on $75,000 bail last week.Juvenile charges against the 16-year-old were not made public.Conklin was returned to Carbon County on Wednesday to be arraigned in connection with the car theft that occurred Nov. 6. During that incident, Conklin also prompted the shutdown of a block in Lansford after his then-girlfriend discovered that he had left a pipe bomb in the house. His bail in that case, for which he is facing felony theft charges, is $5,000.
