Residents from Jim Thorpe to New Ringgold have reported hearing loud booms in the night. It's unclear whether the incidents are related, but it hasn't stopped people on social media from sharing their recent experiences.We asked readers if they heard anything near their homes - and got a lot of responses from residents of Lehighton, as well as Mahoning and West Penn Townships.Readers had plenty of theories for what was causing the booms. Some of the more humorous explanations include people using land-mines to hunt deer and Santa's flatulence.Others think that it may just be hunters, although many people who wrote in said it was too loud to be a deer rifle."I heard it and it shook my house and knocked my wreaths off my windows ... It's not hunters," Facebook user Canfield Cooper wrote.The reports seem to be coming from two areas in particular - the borough of Lehighton and the Andreas area.The reports from Lehighton were over a period of a couple weeks, and as recent as Sunday night.Facebook user Jessica Desch said she heard a boom coming from what she thought was the Jamestown area of the borough."I heard it at midnight in the borough of Lehighton last week, it shook my house and my father heard it too at his house in the borough as well," Facebook user Michelle Slutter Parent said.The reports from the Andreas area are not as recent. One reader who emailed us said that they even saw white smoke after hearing a boom near Andreas.Local emergency officials say they have not heard any complaints about the loud booms. However, there were published reports of similar noises in the Schuylkill County area a few weeks ago.Carbon County Emergency Management Agency coordinator Mark Nalesnik also said that he has heard no reports of loud booms in the area."We've received no complaints of 'loud booms' from Carbon or Schuylkill counties in the last 2-3 weeks," DEP spokesman Colleen Connolly said via email.
