Carbon County is receiving nearly $100,000 back from its insurance provider.

On Thursday, Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard announced that the Pennsylvania Counties Risk Pool board of directors has announced that a dividend distribution of $3 million will be sent to its members.Carbon County, who received a check for $92,845, is one of 49 counties and four county-related agencies that use the PCoRP insurance, operated by the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania. PCoRP, which was formed in April 1987, insures over $5.3 billion worth of property throughout Pennsylvania, as well as thousands of vehicles and employees.The dividend is based on members contributions paid and claims cost for policy years 2009-2010 through 2013-2014.In those years, Carbon County paid a combined total of $1,541,223 for its insurance policy, which covers $97.1 million in county property and 56 vehicles, general liability, law enforcement liability, public officials' errors and omissions, automobile liability, medical payments for auto and premises claims, professional liability and crime, equipment breakdown and flood insurances.Dividend payments, which are a result of funds not fully being used for a variety of reasons, including a smaller number of claims to the insurance, will range from $275,385 to $2,405 between its members. The payments are also dependent on the financial position of PCoRP at the end of each year.The money Carbon received will go back into the general fund.Gerhard said that this year's distribution brings the total dividends sent back to PCoRP members since 2011 to $11 million.
